NIL-COR® VALVES - FLUE GAS DESULFURIZATION
Process: Flue Gas Desulfurization
Location: Ohio
A large electric power company was experiencing unacceptable maintenance cost on the automated modulating steel-bodied pinch valves in the FGD scrubbers of their coal-fired power plants in Ohio. The very harsh service conditions include reagent and by-product slurries with high modulating pressure drops and up to 25,000 ppm chloride content of the reclaimed water. In addition, high pressure drops on the slurry recycle header created cavitating conditions with damage to the downstream piping.
Nil-Cor® and our distributor developed a plan to replace the dozens of troublesome pinch valves with 3”-8” Nil-Cor 300 zirconia ceramic-lined advanced composite v-port control valves equipped with digital smart positioners. Cavitation damage was mitigated with ceramic-lined downstream spools and ceramic orifice plates. In addition, scores of inoperable drain valves were replaced with Nil-Cor 310 cavity filler ball valves. Our customer is satisfied that their service improvement goals have been met.
