A large chemical distributor intended to expand their chemical storage and distribution terminal at Rotterdam. The new section would handle nickel chloride, a highly corrosive chemical used as a catalyst and in nickel plating of steels. The distributor had selected FRP pipe to resist the internal, external corrosion and UV exposure of the sea-side terminal site. A compatible valve was needed to take full advantage of the low-maintenance, non-metallic piping system. This performance had to be achieved within the project budget.

The local Nil-Cor® distributor and the piping contractor recommended Nil-Cor advanced composite valves. The Nil-Cor series 310 ball, butterfly and check valves utilize an advanced novolac epoxy vinyl ester resin reinforced with glass fiber which met all of the chemical distributor’s performance and cost targets. The Nil-Cor flat-faced ball valve flange design eliminated bending stress on the FRP pipe flanges. The light weight of the Nil-Cor valves was an extra bonus, reducing the cost of piping supports.
